Great Summer Destinations!

With 222 state wildlife areas in Colorado, and 205 parks in Denver alone, it’s not hard to get outside for a fun family outing! We’ve narrowed down the list to some of our very favorites.

Great Sand Dunes National Park
Home to the tallest sand dune in America, this 46,000-acre landscape of 700-foot sand peaks was created by ocean waters and wind more than one million years ago.

Colorado Railroad Museum
Who doesn’t love trains?! With over 100 steam and diesel locomotives, passenger cars and cabooses, this museum is rich with history and adventure. If you plan your visit on a Saturday, be sure to catch a ride on the 1880’s era steam locomotive!

Heritage Square
This old-west style replica village has it all: shopping, food, an amusement park, the alpine slide, dinner theater, and more!

Berry Patch Farms
Go berry picking! This charming (and certified organic) farm is also home to chickens, turkeys and a pot-bellied pig.

Chautauqua Park
This park outside of Boulder has a slide built right into the side of the mountain! And don’t miss the fun-house as you take in the spectacular views.

Plains Conservation Center
Enjoy history, art, and environmental stewardship at “Prairie Preschool”! This 8,894 acre loaction also boasts a buffalo herd ,historic ranch houses, a schoolhouse, blacksmith shop and barn, an heirloom garden and chicken coop, and a Cheyenne camp with tipis

Platte Valley Trolley
See Denver from a new perspective while you take in some history in an open-air “breezer”! Be sure to plan a day with good weather to ensure the trolley is running.

Bear Creek Lake Park
Hike, Bike and swim! You’ll find more than a full days worth of fun in this sprawling 2,600 acre open space park.

Matthew Winters Park
Near Red Rocks, this park offers a kid-friendly hike! (Ages four and up.) And stop by the nearby Dinosaur Ridge Visitor Center for some prehistoric fun.
