DCP’s New Recycling Program

DCP Steps Up Its Recycling Program

Waste sorting stations (blue bin for recycling, green bin for composting and white bin for trash) have been placed in each classroom and teacher’s lounge, and green compost bins have been placed in all bathrooms.  Thank you for following the guidelines below to make our program a success.

RECYCLE IN THE BLUE BIN
  • Paper, including colored paper and paper with paint, tape, glitter, etc. on it – you should be able to see more paper than paint
  • Cardboard boxes as well as toilet paper rolls and paper towel rolls
  • Paperboard like tissue boxes, cereal, cracker, and soap boxes
  • Magazines, catalogs, junk mail
  • Cartons including milk and juice cartons, juice boxes, creamer, broth and soup, and even ice cream cartons  (remove straws and caps and put those in the trash)
  • Paper bags
  • Aluminum cans, foil and pie tins
  • Steel cans and empty aerosol cans
  • Glass bottle and jars (remove metal lids and recycle separately)
  • Plastic bottles, jugs, to-go cups, jars, tubs like yogurt and sour cream, plastic trays like those used for microwave dinners, clean “clam-shell” containers like those used for berries and bakery goods
COMPOST IN THE GREEN BIN

Due to limited capacity at this time and wanting to keep things simple at first, we are just going to compost non-recycable paper products.  This includes things like:

  • Paper towels
  • Tissues
  • Napkins
  • Paper plates and cups
  • Tea bags
  • Greasy pizza boxes (non-greasy pizza boxes should go in recycling)
  • Wax paper
PLEASE PUT IN THE TRASH
  • Plastic bags
  • Plastic food wrappers including yogurt squeeze pouches
  • Plastic caps and lids including coffee lids
  • Styrofoam
  • Plastic toys or cd cases
  • Plastic shrink wrap or bubble wrap
  • Scrap metal
