Kendra Rippe

Threes-Fours Assistant Teacher

Where did you grow up?: I grew up in Carbondale, CO. It was a wonderful place to grow up and my family and I are so lucky to be able to visit my parents there whenever we want.

How long have you been working with children/teaching?: I have been working with children for the past 18 years. More than half my life.

What led you to a career in education?: I have always enjoyed the energy and curiosity that children have for life. I began babysitting when I was 12 years old and it has grown from there. In high school, for work study, my junior and senior year, I was given the opportunity to work with my kindergarten teacher in the classroom (a perk of growing up in a small town). That is when my passion for teaching began.

What is your favorite thing about working at DCP?: I am so excited and honored to be joining the DCP team. It has been a long-term goal of mine for the past 10 years. I was a nanny for a family whose children attended. I fell in love with the school and it’s philosophy then. I had always kept the idea of working here one day in the back of my mind.

What is your favorite thing to do in the classroom?: I really like science. It has always been my favorite subject and I really like to see young minds fall in love with everything it has to offer.

What are your hobbies or passions outside of DCP?: We really enjoy being outside and enjoying what Colorado has to offer: camping, hiking, biking, skiing. We also love all of the cultural and sporting events that are in Denver.  Exploring the different restaurants and breweries in Colorado has become a working passion. Chris and I own a brewpub in RINO. This summer we have spent a lot of our time in the water, my girls have inherited our families love for the water.

Where can we find you in Denver (favorite spots/hangouts/places to visit)?: At the zoo, aquarium, children’s museum, botanic gardens, nature and science museum, any of the parks around Denver, the pool, Coors field, our restaurant or at home.

Tell us about your family?: Our family consist of myself, my husband Chris and our daughters – Monroe age five and Adelaide who is four. Monroe graduated from DCP in 2016 and Adelaide will be in the Pre-K classroom this year. I am so excited for Adelaide to be able to learn in this brilliant and engaging environment.

What did you want to be when you grew up?:  When I was little I wanted to become a dentist or a FBI agent. In high school, I really fell in love with teaching.

What do you remember most about being a young child?: Growing up in Carbondale and all of the adventures and friendships. I am still, to this day, really good friends with the majority of my elementary school friends. It was a wonderful place to grow up and my childhood was full of outdoor adventures.

What was your favorite thing to do as a child?:  Camping and boating; almost every single vacation we went on was a camping/boating trip. As a young child, we spent a lot of time in the mountains around our home town and in Utah. This taught my sister and I to love and appreciate the outdoors. I have very fond memories of Utah and to this day Moab and Lake Powell are some of my favorite places.

Anything else you want to add about yourself: I am so excited to be joining the teaching team at DCP. The amount of knowledge and love the teachers have will help me learn and grow in a invaluable way. There really is no other place like DCP for Early Childhood Education and I am honored to be a small part of what makes DCP so magical.
