Hi there! My name is Michaela and this is my second year as the associate educator in the Younger Preschool classroom at DCP. From the focus on play-based learning to the cooperative model of our community, DCP is a truly magical and one-of-a-kind place and I cannot imagine teaching anywhere else.
I grew up in Michigan, where I received a BA in English Literature and Creative Writing from the University of Michigan. After college, I spent a year teaching English to elementary and middle school kids in rural Japan, which greatly broadened my perspective on education and life. I also have experience working with young children as a tutor, camp counselor, and nanny.
I believe that imagination and silliness are two of the greatest tools for learning that we possess, and I am overjoyed to be part of a school community that encourages me to emphasize these values in my teaching. In my free time, I enjoy playing board games with friends, hiking, reading (particularly fantasy and sci-fi), and attending electronic music shows. I share my home with my partner Izzy.
