Hello, my name is Tatiana Hovland, and I am so excited to be joining DCP for the first time this year as a Float Teacher. I am currently finishing an associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education at the Community College of Denver, and I hope to go on to get a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or ECE.
I was born in Denver and moved to Durango, CO, when I was about 12 years old with my family, so the mountains hold a special place in my heart. When I am not doing homework, I like to spend my time hiking, cooking, drawing, reading, and hanging out with my tuxedo cat named Friday.
I grew up attending Escuela Tlatelolco, a Montessori school founded by Chicano Rights activist Corky Gonzales in North Denver. That experience influenced me immensely to become an educator. The reason I love working with children is because of their boundless curiosity, imagination, and creativity. One of my personal values is to help create a better world for the next seven generations. I believe we have the ability to make a more accepting and equitable world if we spend time building meaningful relationships and connections with young children and their families.
I would like to foster independence and confidence in the children I work with so that they can develop a lifelong love for learning and a sense of responsibility for themselves and the planet. I look forward to growing as an educator and building these important relationships with the DCP community.
