Shandon Wells

Manager of Operations

Where did you grow up?:I grew up on 18 acres in Sanger, California. Sanger is right in the middle of the state, lots of farmland nestled up to the Sierra Nevadas.

What is your favorite thing about working at DCP?: I love the strong sense of community at DCP– community can be so beneficial to both children and their adults, and is so often something that is missing from modern life. It’s a beautiful thing to see so many people coming together to create such a supportive space for families to learn and grow.

What is your favorite thing to do in the classroom?:Libraries and reading to children will always be my fave, but I also love hanging out at the sensory or science tables and asking questions to explore what children are experiencing or observing or curious about.

What are your hobbies or passions outside of DCP?: Being a mom; cooking & baking; gardening; making coffee; knotting prayer beads; reading a good book; painting; engaging with my community.

Where can we find you in Denver (favorite spots/hangouts/places to visit): You can find me in my kitchen cooking a delicious meal for family & friends, in my yard tending my oversized garden, or in a local coffee shop enjoying a good conversation over a cup of coffee.

What did you want to be when you grew up?: An astronaut or a teacher

What do you remember most about being a young child?: Spending hours and hours outside using my imagination to invent games and whole new worlds. Watching or interacting with the local animals (horses, feral farm cats, toads, frogs, praying mantis buddies, quail, pheasants, red-wing blackbirds, minnows, etc).

What was your favorite thing to do as a child?: We had these really tall eucalyptus trees on our property and I always loved climbing them and reading books up in the branches. I also loved the freedom of riding my bike down the canal paths and exploring the countryside.

Anything else you want to add about yourself: I’m looking forward to getting to know you! Come say “Hi!”
